Domain name prices vary – in some cases wildly – from registrar to registrar. Fortunately, there’s at least one service out there that will show you what these registrars are charging their users which could come in handy if you are building a domain portfolio (or simply want to get the lowest price).

Domcomp aggregates prices for 746 top-level domains from over 10 registrars, making it possible to see which has the lowest price for a specific extension. Last week, for example, the .Click extension entered general availability and I immediately headed to my registrar of choice (GoDaddy). After checking domcomp’s domain price comparison tool, I learned I overpaid by a factor of two. The $9.99 domain name I acquired through GoDaddy could have been purchased at 1&1 for just $4.99.

The comparison engine aggreates prices daily from registrars including GoDaddy, 1&1, United Domains, dotster, NameCheap, Name.com, NameSilo, Dynadot, Uniregistry, Gandi.net, Hover, Domain.com, and iWMN (IWantMyName.com).
